Erlene Etta Leonard, 84, of East Calais died on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Burlington Health & Rehab Center.
She was born on June 9, 1933 in East Calais, VT, the daughter of Gordon and Rowena (Leach) Leonard.
She attended grade school in East Calais and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950
Erlene worked for a number of places including Woolen Mills, Sprague Electric, and the Clothes Pin Factory. She also enjoyed mowing several of the neighbors lawns and the East Calais Ball Field.
She was actively involved in the Historical Society of Calais and she was often called the town historian. Erlene had an interest in sports and was a long-time assistant coach for Spaulding High School and Union 32 Field Hockey and Softball. She was also a big fan of the New York Yankees.
Survivors include her sisters; Linda Clark and her husband Ron of East Calais, Sandra Shimmon and her husband, Brad of Barre, VT, and Elizabeth Bigelow of Williamstown; and several nieces and nephews
The will be a memorial gathering on September 23rd from 1-3:00 pm at the East Calais Recreation Building.
