Obituary

Ellen Beck of Montpelier, Vermont passed away on February 6, 2026. She was born on August 11, 1935, to Bruno and Ruth McKenzie Beck in Burlington, Vermont. She attended Burlington schools and was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Boston University, Sargent College in 1957. That same year she married Wayne Tuller (divorced in 1994). They had 7 children while living in Middlesex and later moved to Calais.

She was a mom, homemaker, teacher and avid horseback rider. She loved being active outdoors and spent as much time outside as she could. For many years she was a 4-H leader, involved the Vermont Horse Council and the Vermont Cross-State Ride. She spent many years pursuing her passion of teaching. She started teaching at Waterbury schools then Vermont Basic Education and finally at Turtle Island Child Care Center. In addition, she volunteered at St. Michaels and Calais schools.

Coming from a large family, and having one of her own, she was surrounded with siblings, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She went to thousands of high school basketball games over the years and became an important part of Montpelier High School's "Granny Squad" during her grandson's high school years.

Constantly active, she also enjoyed gardening, playing games, reading and later in life hanging out in her "beer tent" reading or knitting. She knitted hundreds of hats, scarves and blankets to donate locally to help keep people warm. Most of all she loved trail riding and rode countless miles throughout Vermont and Arizona and will be fondly remembered for all the good times and her favorite black hat that she always wore while she rode. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral services. Donations can be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice in her honor.
