Obituary

Elizabeth Jean Morse passed on at the McClure-Miller Respite House on October 12, 2026.

Elizabeth was known as Beth, or Betsy to the family. She was born on March 28, 1957 to David P. and Elinor (Burns) Morse in Montpelier, VT. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1975.

Beth had several different jobs following graduation, including announcing for the local radio stations. She then spent some years as a typesetter, working for local businesses including the Northfield News and BCK Reality.

After living in Seattle for 4 or 5 years, Beth returned to Vermont and went back to school, earning an associate degree in electrical engineering from Vermont Technical College and a bachelor's degree in literature from Union Institute which was on the Montpelier campus at that time. She eventually ended up working for National Life, from which she retired in 2021.

She had an artistic spirit, and she also embraced technology. She would try to learn as much as possible about everything that captured her interest.

Beth wrote every day, both journaling and fiction. She loved pop music, everything from the 1960s through today. She loved traveling by car, visiting all corners of Vermont and camping when possible. She was happiest out in a natural setting, and could tell you about every piece of grass, every tree, every rock and every bird call. She was always concerned about our environment, and tried to keep her property free of invasives, and keep pollinators feel welcome.

When at home, she was a hand crafter, making beautiful and unusual hand-stitched items.

Unfortunately Beth had only 1 year to enjoy retirement before being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive sarcoma, which she battled as long as possible. We have to thank the oncology doctors, nurses and staff at both the Central Vermont medical center and at UVM, who supported her determination, providing surgeries, treatments and encouragement. And we also thank the friends and neighbors who greatly assisted us during the last four years.

She is loved and missed greatly by her sister Julia Heller, her brother Dave Morse, Rebecca Singer, Jesse Singer and Jose Ayala, all her Wheatley, Benson and Regan cousins, and especially her cat Zonker.

A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
