Obituary

Montpelier, VT It is with deep sorrow that the family of Elizabeth Ann Lynch (Beth Ann Lynch) announces her passing on October 17, 2017 at Central Vermont Hospital, in Berlin, VT after a short but brave fight with cancer. Beth Ann was born on March 8, 1951 in New York, NY to Elizabeth (Schrama) and Donald C. Lynch. Beth Ann grew up in Upper Nyack, NY and graduated from Nyack High School in 1969. Beth Ann was an avid swimmer and diver, who completed the Hudson River swim marathon crossing from Tarrytown to Nyack, NY. During high school, she was an outstanding athlete winning many competitions in swimming and high diving. After high school, Beth Ann became a counselor at St. Dominics Home in Blauvelt, NY; a job she loved, and she continued to stay connected to many of the children she met over those years. Beth Ann moved to Vermont in 1975, and later married Donald J. Adams. They had two children but later divorced. She graduated from Champlain College with an Associates degree in Accounting and shortly thereafter began her own accounting and bookkeeping business in Montpelier, VT. Beth Ann was truly connected to the community and, along with her friends, started the Pee Wee baseball league and Learn to Skate programs in Montpelier. Along with her great friends in Montpelier she helped found the Adult Music Ensemble (now the Capitol City Orchestra). She later became involved in the Green Mountain Speed Skating Club supporting her children in numerous competitions. Beth Ann moved to Cary, NC in 2002 where she worked for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the School of Education department. Having learned the skills from her mother, she became an accomplished and passionate seamstress who was able to tailor, design and sew elaborate evening gowns, mens suits and costumes. She later taught sewing classes out of her home to children and adults in Cary. Always looking for new experiences, Beth Ann loved the opera and classical music, and became a radio announcer for WCPE in North Carolina. She also continued her love of sports and joined the local Triangle Curling Club and, as a member of the Raleigh YMCA, continued her love of swimming. She is survived by her two children, Elizabeth J. Phillips and her husband Charles "Marty" Phillips of Tampa, Florida, and her son Petr Woodruff Lynch and his partner Marisa Mejia of Chicago, Illinois. She also leaves behind her brothers Peter Lynch and his wife Diane Lynch and Dr. James M. Lynch and wife Margaret Lynch and their sons Shane Lynch, Justin Lynch, Daniel Lynch and Nicholas Lynch. She was predeceased by both of her parents. The family would like to thank the staff at UNC-Chapel Hill Lineberger Cancer Center and Central Vermont Medical Center for the outstanding care and compassion they provided. Special thanks and love to the friends and family who provided their love and support over the past several months. A service of remembrance and celebration of Beth Anns life will be held at Bethany Church in Montpelier, VT on December, 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. All those fortunate to have been touched by Beth Anns love and compassion are welcome to attend.
