Elia Cenci Rogers, 95, passed away on April 29, 2010 at Shelburne Bay Senior Living in Shelburne after a brief illness.
Born June 11, 1914, in Barre, Vermont, she was the daughter of Anacleto and Carmella (Coletti) Cenci. She graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre and from the Goddard Seminary Secretarial Course in June, 1932.
In Barre, on Valentine's Day, 1942, she married Albert (Al) Rogers, who passed away on May 18, 1995 after 53 years of marriage. They moved to the Midwest in 1949 and lived in South Bend, Indiana, for over 20 years, returning to Barre in 1973, where she volunteered at the Central Vermont Hospital for several years.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and pinochle, and reading the daily paper. In 2000, she moved to Shelburne, where she has lived for the past decade at the Shelburne Bay Senior Living Community. She was known as a good card player and a dear, sweet, quiet person, with a special, frequent laugh. When asked how she lived so long, she often said, "I take it one day at a time."
