East Barre, VT
Eleanor B. White, East Barre VT, passed away late in the evening on November 16, 2017 at Berlin Health & Rehab in Berlin at the age of 95 after a sudden illness. Eleanor was born in 1922 in Montpelier VT.
Her mother Irene was brought to the hospital during a very cold winter's day in late January 1922 by her father in a one horse open sleigh to give birth to Eleanor. They were covered with a big old bear rug to keep warm.
Eleanor grew up with her two sisters in Waitsfield and on a farm and later in the village of Moretown, VT. Eleanor was the eldest daughter of Clyde and Irene (Childs) Baird of Moretown. She attended Moretown Village Grade School and graduated as Salutatorian with honors from Montpelier Seminary which is now Vermont College. Together with her two sisters while young adults she often sang in a trio with her two sisters and played piano for church related functions and also at the State House for the Vermont Legislature during the time her father, Clyde Baird, was the Moretown VT Legislative Representative.
After WWII Eleanor married Richard White of Montpelier in 1946 who worked most of his career for the A&P Store in Montpelier. Eleanor worked as a claims clerk for Vermont Mutual Insurance and Union Mutual Insurance companies in Montpelier.
The majority of her years were spent at home in Montpelier raising her three children. Eleanor returned to the work force after all had left the nest and worked for the Montpelier School System at the elementary and high school working in multiple support staff capacities at both facilities.
Eleanor was per-deceased by her former husband, Richard A. White of Montpelier and two younger sisters, Janice Coates of Keene NH and Marcella Morandi of Montpelier VT.
Survivors include her three children, Richard D. White, Linda Baird-White, and Michael S. White and grand children, including Bradley Belleville, Bobby Belleville, Bridget Marshall, Brady Belleville, Jasmine White, Christine Ecto, Jessica Corrado, Mallory Belleville, Brody Belleville, Megan Belleville along with many nieces, nephews and great grand children.
A memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT 05602
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for contribution to the Activities Center at Berlin Health and Rehab Center in Berlin VT where Eleanor spent her remaining years.
