Eleanor M. Batchelder, 87, formerly of Batten Hill Road, East Calais and, for the past several years, a resident of Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center died September 11, 2013. She was born in Montpelier, Vermont on August 2, 1926 the daughter of William Martin Bushey and Flora Adelaide (Ibey) Bushey. Eleanor was married to C. Roy Batchelder in November 1945 in Plainfield, VT. Mr. Batchelder predeceased her in October of 1986 after over 40 years of marriage. Eleanor was a longtime cook at different facilities including the former Heaton House, Calais Elementary School, U-32 High School, and Plainfield Senior Center. She loved taking care of her gardens and enjoyed sewing, making quilts and Raggedy Anne Dolls that traveled all over the world. She is survived by five daughters, Barbara Brown of Milton, VT; Courtney Chandler of Colchester, VT; Jane Tolassi of Ringgold, GA; Carol Webster of Berlin, VT; Laurie Berard of Jericho, VT; 3 sons, Richard Batchelder of Williamstown, VT; Dale Batchelder of East Calais, VT and David Batchelder of Raleigh, NC; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter Beverly Goslant; granddaughter, Mary Berard, sister, Kathleen Black and two brothers, Fred and Kenneth Bushey; and her companion Ruben Wilbur. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
