Obituary

Worcester, VT Elden A.Brown, 93 of Worcester passed away on July 30, 2019 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, Vermont. Elden was born in Montpelier, Vermont on September 10, 1925, the son of Ruth J. (Brown) and Lynn I. Brown. Elden attended grade school in Worcester and Montpelier High school. Elden was a veteran of World War II in the US Army serving in Germany. He ran the family farm for many years and for years repaired radios televisions and other electronic devices, holding a Master Radio and Television Technician license. He worked as a custodian at National Life Insurance Company and for 25 years was a much loved custodian at Montpelier High School. He was a 78 year member of the North Branch Grange in Worcester and held many offices from subordinate Grange Master to State Grange Deputy State Master. Elden loved music and could play guitar, harmonica, organ, piano, accordion and keyboard, he entertained the Woodridge residents and staff as often as he could by wheeling his wheelchair over to the grand piano and playing music from memory. He accompanied the harpist and the other musicians that entertained at the nursing home. On the morning of his death he had played his harmonica for the staff. He married Helen (Persons) in 1947 and they had 6 children. They enjoyed 70 years together. Helen predeceased him in 2016. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Brown, of Boulder, Colorado; Melissa Brown Bessett and partner Bob Watson of East Montpelier, Vermont ; three sons, Malcolm Brown and his wife, Jeanne, of Milton, Vermont and Boulder, Colorado; Alan Brown and his wife, Candace, of Wilder, Vermont , and Keith Brown and his wife, Amy, of Worcester, Vermont; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Granddaughter, Amy Guilmette and husband Eddy and great grandsons,Lincoln and Finnegan of Zebulon, North Carolina; grandson, Scott Brown and wife Melissa and sons, Alexander and Jeremy of Jericho, Vermont; granddaughter, Kelley Merchant and husband Tim and three daughters: Brooke, Bethany and Bridget; and son David of Williston, Vermont; grandson, Andy and wife Cathy and sons, Brady and Colby of Walnut Creek California; granddaughter, Mary Mullally and fianc Patrick Luce and daughter, Hannah and sons, Seth and Noah of Montpelier, Vermont; granddaughter,Melody Bessett of Oakland, California, grandsons; Brett Bessett of Denver, Colorado, and Ben Bessett and partner Hilary and great granddaughter Aurora of Calais, Vermont; granddaughters, Taylor Kantor and husband Nick of Boston, Massachusetts and Mackenzie Brown and fianc Dakotah Senesac of Wilder, Vermont; grandson Shaun Brown of Woodbury, Vermont; granddaughter Kelsey Brown and fianc William Odell-Monley of Portland, Oregon. The brothers and sisters want to acknowledge the fine staff at Woodridge Nursing Home for Dads care and for encouraging and allowing him time to pursue his musical interests. We are thankful for Mary Mullallys special care she gave her grandfather and especially trips to Worcester for Wednesdays lunch. He always enjoyed the lunch and seeing that group. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at Worcester United Methodist Church. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the Worcester Cemetery after the church service. A celebration of Eldens life will follow at the town hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eldens memory to Worcester United Methodist Church, PO Box 125, Worcester, Vermont 05682.
