Earl J. Montague, 85, of Putnam Road, East Montpelier died at his home on Saturday, May 11, 2013.
He was born on September 27, 1927 in Barre, Vermont the son of Arthur Edgar & Gertrude (Rooney) Montague.He attended schools in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1945.
Earl enlisted in the US Navy immediately following his graduation from high school and served until the end of WW2. He reenlisted into the Navy and continued his service into the Korean War. He was stationed on the USS Prairie, a destroyer tender.Earl was a life-time member of the VFW # 792 of Montpelier.
Earl was married to Pauline Leonard White on November 7, 1965.They have two children, Dianna (DJ) and Arthur.Mrs. Montague predeceased him on March 4, 1997.
Earl & Polly owned and operated several business together including, Green Mountain Monitoring & Medical Alert, Green Mountain Answering Service, and Signal Security Systems.Earl was also a restaurant owner & operator of the Twin City Lane Restaurant, Chef's Restaurant on the Barre-Montpelier Road and the Water Wheel Restaurant in Groton. They also operated a family farm on Putnam Road for several years.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianna Jean (DJ) Montague; son, Arthur Mason Montague; two grandchildren, Ryan David Belliveau and Allison Sarah Belliveau all of East Montpelier; two sisters, Merle Jean Pieramico of Rochester, NY andLois Ann Foss of Plainfield, VT and a brother, David John Montague of Derry, Ireland.
Earl was predeceased by a sister, Diane Mary Perreault.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 15th at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial with military honors will be at Doty Cemetery, East Montpelier.
