Dorothy "Eileen" Gidney, 78, of Elm Street, Montpelier, passed peacefully in her home on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
Eileen was born on July 6, 1937 in Hackensack, NJ, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Merwede) Russell. She attended one of the first integrated public high schools in Hackensack and graduated in 1955. She enjoyed dancing and caring for her brothers, she was loved and respected by all who met her.
In 1958, she married K. Norman Cota, from upstate New York, who predeceased her on December 4, 1980. They met at a rollerskating rink, while he was in the Navy. They shared their lives together in Montpelier with their two daughters, Aimee and Michelle; who they welcomed into their hearts in 1973.
In the early eighties, Eileen met the second love of her life, William (Bill) Gidney, affectionately called "Wild Bill". They were married at "High Noon" New Years day, 1986. Completing their family with Bill's children and hers. Together they shared the love of dancing, extensive traveling, their many friends and family. The enjoyed their home in Montpelier and watching the hummingbirds was a favorite pastime. Bill sadly predeceased her in 1996.
Eileen enjoyed retirement from her many years working at National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier, VT. She spent her time traveling, doting on her many grandchildren, and maintaining her gardens and home. She was also a long time volunteer at the Central Vermont Hospital, where she truly enjoyed doing for others.
Survivors include her "Everloving" children; Aimee, Michelle, Jaime, Cathy, William "Billy" and his wife Robin, Emily "Mimi" and her wife Robin, Her "oldest" brother Edward Russell and his wife Marylene; Her brother William Russell and his wife Kathy; Her grandchildren; Bryce, Dakota, Meagan, Cassidy, Lauren and Sage. Her niece Heather and her husband George, and her nephew Craig Russell, as well as numerous extended family members.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT 05602. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Funeral Home.
