Dorothy Lucille Cayia, age 94, of the Barre Manor, passed away January 1, 2018 in Berlin.
Dorothy was born on July 3, 1923 in Plainfield, the daughter of Clyde and Nettie(Getchell) Laird. Upon her graduation from Montpelier High School, Dorothy was invited to work in Washington D.C. at the War Defense Department during WWII.
She met her first husband, Wallace Ringgenberg, and was married in Montpelier, Vermont, June, 24, 1945.They raised two children, Patricia Ann and Edward Laird, in Iowa.
In 1963, she returned to her beloved Vermont. Dorothy retired from the State of Vermont where she worked in the Highway Department and the Environmental Agency. She also worked at the Plainfield Health Center.
In 1969, she married her soul mate, James Cayia, in Berlin. During these years, she was active in her church in many leadership positions. She loved teaching genealogy and was an active member of the DAR in Barre.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ringgenberg Hansen(McKay), 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also beloved by her sister Betty Bell, and numerous devoted nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband James Cayia, son Edward Ringgenberg; sisters: Loraine Brule, Phyllis Maranville, Rachel Laird, Elva Gallison; brothers: Harold Laird, Raymond Ladd, Kenneth Ladd.
Her funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, January 19, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hershey Road, Berlin, Vermont. Calling hours will be held at from 6-8:00 at Guare & Sons on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
Burial will be in the family lot, Eaton Cemetery, Marshfield, Vermont in the spring.
