Obituary

Doris J. Martin, 85, of Second Street, Berlin died Wednesday, December 23rd, at Woodridge Nursing Home. She was born on April 22, 1924 in Missoula, Montana the daughter of Kermit & Gladys (Gladden) Curtis. She attended schools and graduated from high school in Montana. Doris was married to Harold A. Martin of Poultney Vermont in 1944 in Ventura, CA when he was on leave from service during World War 2. After the war they moved to Vermont and resided to Burlington. After living for a year in Sacketts Harbor, NY they settled in Montpelier Vermont in 1964. Mrs. Martin worked for many years at the Montpelier Grand Union and retired from the store in the late 1980's. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Aux. She enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens and adopting stray cats and giving them a home. She loved to swim, was a member of Wedgewood for many years, and spent as much time as she could at the beach. She enjoyed traveling to Montana to visit her sister and to Florida to visit her son and his family. She also enjoyed scenic drives and dining around Vermont with her good friend, Anne Goodrich. She especially loved family get togethers and time spent with her grandchildren. Doris is survived by fours sons, Terry Martin of Langdon, NH; Danny Martin and his wife, Sharon of Calais, VT; Richard Martin and his wife, Phyllis of East Montpelier; and Rex Martin and hi wife, Susie of Boca Raton, FL; eight grandchildren, Kevin Martin, Keith Martin, Tara Martin, David Martin, Anna Martin Eric Adams, Brad Martin & Kyle Martin; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Harold and a sister, Lola. Doris' family and everyone who knew her considered her to be a very kind, generous, loving, and gentle soul. She will be sorely missed. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 27th at 2:00 p.m., at the Crossroads Christian Church, on the corner of Fassett Road & Route14S. East Montpelier. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Central Vermont Humane Society, PO Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05601.
