Berlin, VT
Donald "Donnie" R. Thresher, 72, of Route 12 in Berlin, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Four Seasons Care Home in Northfield, whose staff lovingly cared for him in his final days.
He was born on January 10, 1947 in Randolph, VT, the son of Arthur and Mildred Thresher. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1965.
On October 23, 1971 he married Katherine Fordham at the Berlin Congregational Church.
Donnie had a strong work ethic and worked for the Montpelier School System as the Director of Buildings and Grounds for 26 years before retiring in 2009. Prior to his years at the school, he worked as a licensed electrician for Bates and Murray and the State of Vermont. For many years, he worked odd jobs in addition to his full time work on nights and weekends to always provide for his families needs.
Donnie was an avid antique car enthusiast and collector of license plates and "stuff." DON T and his Superbee attended many car shows around New England. He loved fast cars, long drives, greasy diners and sweet treats. A favorite drive in particular was Smugglers Notch every fall with his wife and children. He valued family above all and loved visiting and telling jokes. He and Katherine enjoyed renting a camp with good friends on Crystal Lake every summer, always happy to host family and friends. Donnie had a truly generous spirit and epitomized the "pay it forward" philosophy.
Survivors include his children; his daughter Brittany Perry and her husband Daniel and their son, Jack of East Montpelier; his son, Ryan Thresher of Manchester, NH; and his siblings, Gordon Thresher and wife Marie of Lyndonville; Hilton Thresher and his wife Susan of Barre. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his wife Katherine, and his brother Wesson Thresher.
A memorial service will be held 1:00pm on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
