Obituary

Donald L. MacAulay, a resident of Mayo Healthcare, Northfield, VT passed away on July 7, 2010. Mr. MacAulay was born on May 13, 1933 in Riverton, VT, the son of Wilbur and Glenna Lawrence MacAulay. In 1937, his father passed away and his mother later married Lawrence H. Bedell of Montpelier, VT, a caring stepfather. Mr. MacAulay was a member of the Montpelier High School graduating class of 1951. During his senior year he enlisted into the Marine Corp and there earned his GED. Mr. MacAulay was with the 2nd Marine Division and served during the Korean War. After discharge from the Marine Corp, Mr. MacAulay then worked for propane companies in Miami, FL learning the trade. He worked for Texas Eastern for 25 years and successfully managed a number of different district offices throughout the eastern United States, the most recent being Canton, GA. Other district offices were located in Barre, VT, Waitsfield, VT, Greenfield, MA, and Orlando, FL, retiring in 1994 in Atlanta, GA. Mr. MacAulay enjoyed outdoor sports and spent many good times with family and friends, deer and rabbit hunting, fishing and golfing. He especially enjoyed his camp on Lake Champlain in his earlier years. Mr. MacAulay was a life member of the Barre Elks 1535, a life member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 790, Barre, VT, a life member of the American Legion #3, in Montpelier, VT and a national and State of Florida member of the Korean War Veterans Assoc, Inc. Mr. MacAulay is survived by a son, Donnie L. MacAulay, Jr. and his wife Teresa, four grandchildren, Ariel, Tyler, Britt, and Geron, of Pennsylvania, a son, Andrew MacAulay, of Delaware, his siblings, a brother, Kenneth W. MacAulay and his wife, Irene, of San Antonio, TX, three sisters, Shirley A. MacAulay, of Northfield, VT, Bette E. Jangraw of Gorham, NH, and Gail C. Olinger and her husband, Freddie, of Blacksburg, VA, uncle, Weldon Lawrence of Plainfield, VT stepdaughter and husband Leslie and David Raith and two stepgranddaughters, Sydney and Jaime Raith of Colorado Springs, CO, whom he has held close in his thoughts, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. MacAulay was predeceased by his father, mother, stepfather, a brother-in-law, John J. Jangraw and his great nephew Brian J. Wu. Calling hours will be held at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, Sunday, July 11th, from 4-6 p.m. A graveside service and military honors will be held Monday, July 12th, 2:00 p.m., at Berlin Corners Cemetery.
