Donald R. Ibey of Barre, VT passed away at Heaton Woods in the early morning of August 15, 2019 at age 90.
Donald was born in Calais, VT on December 17, 1928, to Delbert and Edith (Trombly) Ibey. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of 9 brothers and sisters, and began working at a very early age.
Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Army he was employed with Rock of Ages until his retirement in 1992.
Donald married Elizabeth (Kynoch) Ibey November 18, 1950. They raised their family and spent their lives together until her death in 2014. Donald loved music of all kinds, which brought him great joy throughout his life.
Donald is predeceased by his three sisters - Doris Langevin, Marion Freeman, Genevieve Freeman, and all five of his brothers- Gerald, Lloyd, Garvin, Gardner, and Lawrence.
He is survived by his daughter, Gail (Ibey) Poitras and her husband, Clay, of Montpelier; three sons, Brian Ibey and his wife, Laura, of Barre Town; Barry Ibey and his wife, Charlene (Shelly), of Plainfield; Richard Ibey and his wife, Heidi, of Barre; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to the devoted staff at Heaton Woods and individual caregivers that provided care, companionship, and comfort to Donald in the last months of his life.
There will be no calling hours and all services for Donald will be private.
