Obituary

Donald Baker Foote, 88, of Berlin, VT, passed away peacefully at his home in Berlin on October 26, 2026.

He was born in Stockbridge, VT on June 14, 1938, to Hilton and Lora Foote, and raised in Cornwall, VT on the family farm. He graduated from Middlebury High School in 1956 and attended Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT.

He married Marjorie (Margie) Agnes Morse in July 1964 and they settled in Berlin. Happily a gentleman farmer, he and Margie grew a large garden every year, plus managed a small maple sugaring operation that friends and family helped with.

Don was employed by the State of Vermont at the Materials Testing Lab during construction of the state’s highways, then in Highway Planning and Traffic Research, and retired in 1994. He was a charter member of the Lionel Collectors Club of America (begun in 1970), and enjoyed all aspects of collecting and maintaining model trains. After retiring, Donald and Marjorie attended, as vendors primarily, many train shows around New England. They also drove cross-country to Alaska one summer, and enjoyed several ocean and destination cruises.

Don is predeceased by his wife Marjorie (2005); leaves children Brian Foote (Williamstown, VT), Karen Foote (Berlin, VT), Lynn Neal & her husband Richard (Hollis Center, ME), and three beloved grandchildren: Breanna Neal, Megan Neal, and Michael Neal (all of Hollis Center, ME). He also leaves siblings Edwin, Fletcher (predeceased), Kendall, Kathryn (Kitty) and Hilton (Will), along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice (600 Granger Rd., Barre, VT 05641-5369) or the First Congregational Church of Berlin (PO Box 1157, Montpelier, VT 05601).
