David Lee Dennis passed away on February 18, 2018 in Fayetteville, Arkansas after a long battle with Alzheimers. David is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ruth Dennis and his Aunt Rose Chrest. He is also predeceased by his wife Dorothy Dennis of 40 years and his step-children Ralph Cortese and Bernadette Hartman.
David is lovingly remembered and survived by his siblings Stephen and Carol Dennis of Baltimore, Maryland and by his step-son Ken and daughter-in law Stephanie Cortese of Atascadero, California. David was also a proud grandfather to: Katrina, Amanda, Angela, Brendon and Marissa. He is also survived by his 5 great-grandchildren.
David was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 4, 1940. David served in the U.S. Coast Guard and making trips to Antarctica aboard the Icebreaker USS Eastwind. Following his military service, David managed the Sparrows Point Country Club in Baltimore, where he met and later married his wife Dorthy, "Dot." David and Dot relocated to Vermont in 1973 where David managed the Montpelier Elks Club. David later achieved a lifelong dream of building a log home which was located on Portal Road in Middlesex. David was a school bus driver for over 20 years for numerous schools in the Montpelier area.
David was a lover of life, avid reader and book collector. He had a variety of hobbies that made him a keen and active socialite around the neighborhood. He enjoyed taking neighbors and friends on sleigh and carriage rides with his beloved Arabian horses, Ashanta and Shawn. He loved Vermont winters and spent countless afternoons snow shoeing with his neighborhood Snowshoe Gang.
In 2011, David moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas to be closer to his granddaughter Katrina and her husband Ryan Lawson. David continued to face lifes challenges with a smile on his face sharing kind words with everyone around him. He will always be remembered as an outgoing soul with a witty way of sharing his wealth of knowledge and wisdom.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 21st at St. Augustine Church in Montpelier on Barre Street followed by a service at North Branch Cemetery. An additional announcement will be made the week prior to services.
