Dan Gribbin passed away on April 15, 2019, surrounded by his children, Sarah, Andrew, Mollie, and their mom, Jill Muhr. He is also survived by Sarahs husband, Phinn Onens, and Andrews partner, Sarah Coggins, who provided a lot of happiness to him in his later years. Additionally, he was close with his niece, Jennifer Horton, of Boston and nephew, Dan Horton, of Portland, ME.
Dans parents, Josephine and Daniel, were born in Belfast, Ireland. He grew up in a close-knit community in Brooklyn, NY with aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dan loved all sports and was a passionate Brooklyn Dodgers fan.
Dan, his twin sister, Pat, and brother, Arthur, were raised by their mother, Josephine, as his father died when he and Pat were babies. Dan graduated with a BA in History from St. Johns University and a MS in Labor Relations from New York Institute of Technology. He worked in New York City in human resources (HR) for several organizations including The New Yorker magazine and Moore-McCormack Lines. He also taught HR courses as an adjunct professor at New York University.
Dan moved to Montpelier in 1989 to take a position as HR Manager/Director of Administration at Goddard College. He also taught a course in Peace Studies. Dan left Goddard in 2000 and took a position as Human Resource Manager at the Hunger Mountain Coop until he retired in 2011.
Dan was a member of St. Augustines parish in Montpelier. He served as chair of the Parish Council, as a lector, and taught students in the 7th and 8th grade preparing them for confirmation. Dan maintained a strong faith, sense of humor, and love of family throughout his life.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustines Church in Montpelier. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to Woodridge, whose staff lovingly took care of and laughed with him these last few years.
