Berlin, VT
Dana M. Marineau, 69, of Berlin, VT and a winter resident of Estero, FL passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dana was born November 15, 1948 in Montpelier, VT, a son of the late Maurice H. Marineau, Sr. and Leona (Aja) Marineau MacWha.
Graduating from St. Michaels High School in 1966, Dana went on to work and then own Huntsmans Store in Montpelier. Throughout his career at Huntsmans and then into retirement, he continued to work with residents and businesses in his communities and volunteering at a center benefiting the youth in Bonita Springs, FL. Dana specialized in interior design, from paints and wallpaper, to restoring furniture and framing, and everything in between. Dana had a special talent for design, colors and ability to pull together ideas that others could only imagine.
Dana contributed to his communities and those fortunate to know him by his involvement in numerous organizations, board member representations and volunteer roles. Over the years, Dana had been involved with the Montpelier Fire Dept. and Recreation Board, St. Augustine and St. Monicas Catholic Churches, the Montpelier Elks Club, Canadian Club, Heaton Woods Board of Directors, Berlin Cemetery & Sewer Boards to name a few. Dana handled many probate estates and provided guardianships to a number of individuals in the Central VT area. Dana and RoseMary opened their home to two very special foreign exchange students, Pierre and Peter. They also provided host family housing to VT Mountaineer baseball players for a number of years. To Dana, all of these young men became an extension of his family, staying in touch through the years.
Danas calm, sensitive and compassionate personality comforted countless families as he worked as an attendant at the Guare and Sons Funeral Home and the Barber and Lanier Funeral Home. Dana was the foundation of his family, as a devoted husband, father, father-in law and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, RoseMary Marineau; two sons, Craig A. Marineau and his wife, Trudy of Berlin, VT and Aaron D. Marineau and his wife, Jill of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Maurice H. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice H. Marineau, Sr. and his mother, Leona A. MacWha.
