Conrad Richard Carey, 69, (a.k.a. "Butch" or "Lester") passed away on May 8, 2024 at the UVM Medical Center with his wife at his bedside. Conrad was born in Montpelier on February 9, 1955 to Richard and Katherine (Morse) Carey. He grew up in East Montpelier and Montpelier and was a 1973 graduate of Montpelier High School. On September 23, 1978, he married Susan Barnes in Middlesex. They lived all their married life in Calais.

He worked numerous places during his lifetime including Beacon Feeds, Howe Cleaners, John Deere retail store, and the State of Vermont Department of Transportation. He and his parents owned and operated "Carey's General Store" in East Montpelier for a couple of years. Conrad owned and operated a small landscaping and snowplowing business called "CC and Son" for several years.

Racing snowmachines throughout New England was a passion for Conrad for many years. He loved motorcycles, old cars, camp, and the car races. He was best known for his love and knowledge of John Deere tractors and lawn mowers. Central Vermont has lost a valuable John Deere resource with his passing.

Besides his wife, Susan, he leaves his son Chris, daughter-in-law Ashley, granddaughter Ayla, sister Darlene Carey, sisters-in-law Sally (David) Benvenuti and Nancy (Robert) Morse, and his beloved Panda cat and granddog Thatcher, as well as many relatives, neighbors and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law.

A Celebration of Life for Conrad will be held at the Canadian Club on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome.
