Clayton "Butch" Davis

Berlin, VT

Clayton "Butch" Davis, 77, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife Tammy by his side. After a short battle with lung disease.

Butch was born to his parents, Percy Davis and Violet Smith Davis, on April 17, 1947, in Hardwick, VT.

Butch graduated from Montpelier High School in 1966 and then served in the United States Army Reserves until 1972, when he was honorably discharged.

Butch married Tammy Slayton in East Montpelier, VT, in 1986, and they made their home in Berlin, VT.

Butch worked for the Town of East Montpelier as part of the road crew and then as a Foreman, totaling 20 years. He then worked driving dump trucks for a few years before finding home at McCullough Crushing as a passionate Equipment Operator for 30-plus years.

Butch had many interests, some of which included snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, watching Nascar races, watching football games, spending time at the beach, building projects, and playing cards with friends and family.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Davis of Berlin, VT, his children Clayton "Butch" Davis Jr. of Fletcher, VT, Joseph Davis of Barre, VT, and Melissa Davis of Barre, VT. He is also survived by siblings Charlotte Tucker of Burlington, VT, Alice Nelson of Alton, NH, and Lee Davis of Barre, VT. 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Also, many nieces and nephews and his McCullough Crushing family.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Violet Davis, as well as siblings Elizabeth Haywood, James Davis, and Lawrence Davis.

Arrangements are in the care of Guare and Sons Funeral Home of Montpelier, VT.

A celebration of life will start at 1 pm at the VFW in Montpelier Post #792, 1 Pioneer Street, on April 19, 2025. A luncheon will follow.

Charitable contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice 600 Granger Road Barre Vermont.
