Obituary

Claudette L. Marinelli, 78, died on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at her home, in the company of her loving family. She was born on December 26, 1935, the daughter of Albert and Fleurette Trahan, in Southbridge, MA. She graduated from the Notre Dame High School in Southbridge, Mass, and attended Becker Junior College. On February 9, 1957, she married Ronald J. Marinelli at the Notre Dame Church in Southbridge, MA and moved to Montpelier, VT in 1965. Claudette joined the State of Vermont Legislative Council staff in 1966 and during her 36 year tenure performed and managed all its operations, serving all members and all committees of both chambers of the Legislature. She innovated and initiated new services and technology to facilitate legislative drafting, communications, and administrative support for the General Assembly in ways never envisioned in 1966. Her presence was a welcome and friendly support to hundreds of Vermont legislators. Claudette retired from the Legislative Council on December 31, 2002. Claudette enjoyed traveling with her husband, family trips to Pine Point, ME, time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, cooking at home, and the supportive community of friends at Westview Meadows and The Gary Home. She was a member of St. Augustine's Church and the Past President of the Montpelier Emblem Club. She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Maxfield and her husband Steve Maxfield of Barre, VT, and their daughter Ariel Duquette of Marshfield, VT; Beth Smith and her husband Ted Smith of Georgia, VT, and their daughter Laura Swanson of Candia NH; her three sons, Michael Marinelli and his wife Elise of Montpelier and their children Andrew Marinelli of Kapolei, HI, Jeff Bousquet of Worcester, VT., and Joe Bousquet of Chicago, IL; Kevin Marinelli and his wife MartieAnne and their children Ava and Caelen of Needham, MA; and Steven Marinelli and his wife Nancy of Georgia, VT, and their children Alex Marinelli of Plymouth, NH and Nick Marinelli currently serving in the United States Air Force in England. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Marinelli and Johanne MacDonald; and her great-grandchildren, Braydan Bousquet and Julie and Dennis Swanson. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald Marinelli in 2012, her parents, Albert and Fleurette Trahan, her brother Frank Trahan and her grandson Scott Smith. Per request of the family, there will be no calling hours. The family invites you to attend a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13th, at St. Augustine's Church in Montpelier, Vt. Interment will follow at Green Mount Cemetery after the Mass and memorial reception.
