Celina Pinan Cormier, 88, of 32 Loomis St., Montpelier died May 11, 2009, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston with her loving family at her bedside.
Celina was a resident of Montpelier throughout her life. She was born November 20, 1920. Her father, Roque Pinan, emigrated from Loredo, Spain and her mother,
Eudosia Toca emigrated from Soma, Spain. She was very proud of her Spanish heritage.
Celina married Edward Cormier and they had two children, Edward James of Brooksville Florida and Donna Gray of Montpelier.
Celina worked at The Children's Store in Montpelier for several years and
then changed her profession to be an underwriter at Vermont Mutual until she retired.
She loved to walk and had a keen interest in heath and nutrition. She was an avid gardener which may have been nurtured by her father who was an herbalist. She also was extremely interested in world political events and had a vast knowledge of the history of Montpelier which she loved to share with friends. She took great pride in her Victorian home on Loomis Street and she received the annual Residential Preservation Award from the Montpelier Heritage Group for her efforts to enhance and preserve the architectural heritage of her home.
She was a great cook and loved to do special dishes for her family. She deeply loved her family, and her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is predeceased by her husband, Edward in 1986, her father Roque, her mother Eudosia, her sister Carmen Pinan Gomez, and her brothers Richard, Roque and Isadoro Pinan.
Celina is survived by her son Edward Jr., her daughter & son-in-law Donna & Arthur Gray, her four grandchildren, Joseph Cormier, Tonya Washburn, Melissa & Keren Pavese, and her three great-grandchildren, Lia Washburn, Corey Florucci and Tyler Pillsbury.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, May 26th at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Church at the corner of Main and School Streets in Montpelier. A time of remembrance will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495. Funeral arrangements are with Guare and Sons Funeral Home.
