Northfield, VT
Cecile M. Staab, 72, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, Vermont, surrounded by her children. She was born February 19, 1936 to Henry and Isabel (Moulton) Desilets of Montpelier.
Cecile attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from St. Michael's High School, class of 1954. After a brief period working in Springfield, MA, Cecile returned to Montpelier and on January 17, 1959 she married John "Jack" Staab of Montpelier. Together Cecile and Jack raised seven children, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with their families.
Cecile enjoyed belly dancing and was proud to have performed locally and to have given lessons. Some of her favorite pastimes were sharing stories and laughter with family and friends, spending time with her 14 grandchildren, Monday Prayer Group, gardening, knitting, baking, eating maple creamies from Morse's Sugar Shack and traveling with her friends. Cecile's favorite time of year was Thanksgiving when everyone would gather at her house to enjoy a great meal, good conversation and many, many laughs.
In 1986 Cecile became known to everyone as Nanny with the birth of her first grandchild, Jamieson. After Jack's passing in 1989, Nanny moved to Northfield to live in an old farmhouse that she simply adored. After over 20 years of employment at International Coins and Currency in Montpelier, Cecile retired in 2001 and enjoyed her freedom, peace and solitude at her home in Northfield. She cherished the winters she spent in Hawaii visiting daughter Cheryl and her family. Cecile felt blessed to have her family and so many special friends who continued to visit her, pray with her and to help her stay in her home as long as possible.
Survivors include two sisters: Lorraine "Mickey" and her husband Donald Rich of Berlin; Theresa and her husband Edwin Callahan of Ringe, NH; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Emery of Abington, PA. She is also survived by her seven children: Cheryl Huntsman of Kailua, HI; Deborah and her husband Kurt Bailey of Barre; Jeffrey Staab of Walden; John "Joe" Staab, III, and his wife Suzanne Verchereau-Staab of Berlin; Lisa and her husband Darron Tabor of Elmore; Michael Staab of Montpelier; Matthew Staab and his wife Elizabeth Bonaduce-Staab of Weston, FL.
