Obituary

Montpelier, VT Carroll Earl Lewis, 88, of Sibley Ave. , Montpelier died unexpectedly Monday, May 28, 2018 at Woodridge Nursing Home. He was born January 11, 1930 in Barre, VT, son of Carroll Wesley Lewis and Florence (Knutson) Lewis. Carroll attended Barre Schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in the Class of 1948. On October 14, 1950 Carroll married Lydia Brignoli at St. Augustine Church. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together and have four children and four grandchildren. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Life-member of the Montpelier Elks and Mutuo Club of Barre, member of the Canadian Club and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Carroll worked most of his life in the utilities industry, first for Central Vermont gas company and then as a lineman and mechanic for Green Mountain Power, retiring from GMP after a 40-year career. In retirement he volunteered at the St. Augustines Soup Kitchen. Carroll enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He and Lydia enjoyed trips to Maine, Italy and the U.S. National Parks. In the summer they enjoyed camping in Milton, VT. with the Central Vermont Boating Club. Carroll was a kind and gentle man with a wicked sense of humor that he maintained through his final days. He loved his family deeply and was a man of strong faith. His concern was always for others and he touched the lives of all he met with his kindness and his humor. He is survived by his wife, Lydia of Montpelier; two daughters, Valerie Lewis and Stephanie Quaranta and her husband, Michael of Montpelier; two sons, Stephen Lewis and his wife, Suzanne of Barre; and Mark Lewis and his wife, Debra of Barre; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Quaranta, Brittaney Lewis, Megan Miller and her husband Scott; and Monica Lewis. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 3rd from 6-8 pm at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00 pm at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 16 Barre Street, Montpelier. Burial will follow the Mass at Green Mount Cemetery, Montpelier.
