Montpelier, VT Carol L. Cromwell, 73, died Friday, May 25, 2018, at her home at Westview Meadows in Montpelier, Vermont, after a courageous battle against metastatic cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Carol Martin, of Batesville, MS, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by her long-time friend, Lynn Sanders, of Boone, NC. She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll, of Asheville, NC. Carol moved to Montpelier in 2011, as a favorite place she enjoyed with her husband on many vacations. Born in Texas on June 30, 1944, Carol studied at Rice University and received her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Duke University in North Carolina. After retiring from a successful industry career in Asheville, Carol enjoyed teaching chemistry labs part time at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Carol was an avid reader, master of difficult puzzles, and a frequent visitor of La Brioche in downtown Montpelier, friending students and staff alike. Her sharp mind and quick wit will be missed by her friends and family. As her wish, there will be no services.
