Carmelita Marie (Murray) Healy of 37 Liberty Street then later at 600 Elm Street of Montpelier died peacefully Monday evening Dec. 8 at Berlin Health and Rehab.
She was born in Rutland, VT on June 22, 1926 as the second daughter to Royal H. and Carmen Gambero Murray. Her father Royal died in a rare car accident in August of 1929 in Charlotte, VT and her mother Carmen died in December of 1983. Carmelita went through the Rutland School System and due to World War II, graduated from Warren Hardy High School in Bridgeport, CT as her mother worked in the defense industry. Carmelita attended the Rutland College of Business.
Carmie was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Charles (Mike) E. Healy, whom she married in Rutland on April 18, 1949. Her sister, Beverly Mayo of Castleton, Vt. died in January 2014.
Surviving are 5 children: Shawn M. Healy and wife, Mina of Plainfield; Lauren M. Bell and husband, Charles H. of Minneapolis, MN; Timothy C. Healy, of Northfield; Patrick R. Healy and wife, Lauri Snetsinger, of Marshfield; and Michael G. Healy, of Barre. She has 6 grandchildren: Jason, Sarah, Ashley, Royal, Wyatt, Brendon, and one great grandson, Liam.
She worked for "Abbie" Soma at the old Brown Derby, which seemed forever. While Carmie was very busy raising her children and working; she did find time for herself thru the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Emblem Club. She loved to sew, garden and especially cook, as we had many neighborhood and school friends at the dinner table.
Burial will take place at Green Mount Cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday Dec. 13 with a Mass to follow at St. Augustine beginning at 12:00 noon and then a reception in the parish hall. Please feel free to join the family at any time to celebrate Carmie's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Green Mount Cemetery Endowment Care Fund, City Hall, 39 Main Street, Montpelier VT.
