Bruce Wallace Merrill, 85, passed away at home on April 20, 2026, surrounded by loving family. He was born to Bernard "Jack" and Marion (Wallace) Merrill on November 1, 1940.

He attended Montpelier schools before enlisting in the Air Force on November 5, 1957, at the age of 17. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bruce was employed as an office equipment repairman at the Moncel company and at Rossi Buick body shop before opening businesses Merrill Body Shop and Downtown Auto Sales in Barre. He worked for Norm's Taxi before retiring.

Bruce liked to watch boxing, listen to country music and his favorite TV Channel Fox News. Great memories were made teaching his children and grandchildren hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed gardening. Sitting on the front porch watching the neighbors drive, bike and walk by was a favorite past time of Bruce's.

Survivors include brother: Forrest Merrill and children: Nancy (Gary) Clark, Michael (Beth MacAskill) Merrill, Roger (Emily Partington) Merrill and Brian (Erica) Sweeney and daughter Brenda Sweeney along with grandchildren: David Clark, Jason Merrill, Melissa Merrill, Amanda Merrill, Katie Merrill, Brooke Merrill, Melanie Buttram, Jakob Bousquet, Brian Sweeney Jr and Emma Sweeney. He also leaves behind several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister LeeAnn Martin and daughter Patricia Merrill.

For all those that knew Bruce, please send him off with the Sweeney Salute!!!
