Obituary

Lake Elmore, VT- Brian Louis Marineau, 71, of Lake Elmore, passed away surrounded by his family after battling pancreatic cancer on September 17, 2023.

Born on November 15, 1951 in Montpelier, he was the son of Louis and Lois Marineau. Brian attended Saint Michael's elementary and middle school before entering Montpelier High School where he graduated in 1969. After studying at UVM, he returned to Montpelier to join his father in running the longstanding family painting business, Louis Marineau & Sons. This decision led him down a career path that would proudly define his family, work, and social life for decades.

Brian married the love of his life, Lorelle "Lori" Gove, in 1975 and they made their home in Montpelier. Two children followed and the young family spent time skiing at Bolton Valley, visiting grandparents at Highgate Springs, and enjoying their own camp on Lake Elmore. In 1993, the family moved to Lake Elmore where Brian was proud to settle into his own little slice of the Beauty Spot of Vermont. In 2019, Brian and Lori purchased a home in Benson, North Carolina near their daughter Leigh, and her husband, Tony. Brian appreciated visiting the warmer climes in the winter while also keeping up with life and business in Vermont.

Brian was a selfless husband, father and grandfather. Throughout his life he worked hard to provide for his family and to ensure their success and happiness. Despite the long hours and stress of running a business, he prioritized the comfort and well-being of his loved ones. His wife, children, and grandchildren know that this was thanks to his big heart and gentle soul. His approach to family life will always be cherished by those who were loved by him.

Brian also devoted himself to the operation of Louis Marineau and Sons. In collaboration with his brothers, sister, and other relatives, Brian helped build one of the most respected painting contracting companies in the area. Beyond beautifying countless homes and buildings, his work cultivated strong lasting relationships with employees, contractors, suppliers and clients around the state. Many who worked with him would attest to Brian's steadfastness, work ethic, and affability.

Brian's leisure time was largely spent around the lake boating, fishing, hunting and sitting on the porch enjoying the view with Lori and his beloved dogs. He was a devoted sports fan too, rooting on his favorite football, baseball, and NASCAR teams complete with his array of baseball caps and jerseys.

Brian attended Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Morrisville where he was a lector for many years. Brian was also a member and president of the New England Chapter of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America.

Survivors include his loving wife Lori, his son Seth and his wife Karine; his daughter Leigh and her husband Tony Richardson of Benson, NC; his granddaughters Camille and Solenne Marineau; and his two brothers and 3 sisters.
