Bradley
Witham
May 21, 1945 – February 1, 2026
Bradley Witham died unexpectedly at home on February 1, 2026.
Bradley was raised in East Montpelier, Vermont, and embodied the hard-working farm ethos of the time. He attended a one-room schoolhouse and then Montpelier High School, where he tolerated sitting all day.
Bradley then joined the Vermont National Guard and had many adventures in the Washington D.C. area and loved to tell the tales throughout his life.
After his service, Brad had many professional lives that included being a commercial truck driver, a logger, and a farmer, with this being his particular interest. He proudly and thoughtfully raised registered Angus breeding stock cattle and adored each animal.
Bradley was a good steward of his animals and the forest he managed, using selective cutting to keep the forest healthy, and then heating his home with felled wood. He was also very generous in helping his family cut, split, and stack wood for weeks at a time. Knowing everyone could keep warm all winter long was important to him. Brad was an avid sugarer and involved the whole family in tapping, collecting, and boiling maple syrup. Working hard outdoors was a very big part of his life, and he loved spending time with family in nature.
Brad loved having coffee every morning at McDonald’s with his mother and many friends and acquaintances, and also at Maplefields, where he made new friends, shared stories, and swapped information about local happenings.
Bradley’s friends and family meant the world to him, and he was diligent in speaking with all of them multiple times per week. In his many conversations, he’d always mention something he’d bought that was on sale; he died having never paid retail for anything other than coffee for his many friends and acquaintances. In addition to the many sales prices, he enjoyed talking with his friends about the state of the stock market, whose many fluctuations he knew to the penny. He was also a bit of a gourmand and always enjoyed a good meal.
Bradley is survived by his older brother Carroll, niece Susan, and long-time friend Jane Johnson, having been predeceased by his mother Helen, father Carroll Sr., and younger brother Bruce.
The family is respecting Bradley’s request for no formal funeral services.
