Obituary

Williston, VT Blanka Jezek Moore, 85, formerly of Montgomery Center and Williston, VT and most recently of Northfield, died on January 25, 2017 at the Mayo Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Vienna, Austria, on February 6, 1931, the daughter of Karl and Karolina (Jirasek) Jezek. She received her primary education in Europe before immigrating to the United States in 1958. She then studied at Champlain College where she received a Bachelor's degree. Blanka received her United States Citizenship on July 17, 1995. On July 16, 1971, she married the love of her life, Porter James Moore. Together they enjoyed skiing and traveling the world including many parts of Europe and the United States. They also enjoyed spending time at their cabin near Jay. James predeceased her on October 14, 2005. Blanka worked for Champlain College as a computer programming professor from 1981 until her retirement in 2000. Blanka was passionate about many things, none more so than skiing. In her early years she worked as a ski instructor in Killington. She enjoyed the sport well into her 70's with her late husband and daughter, Kimberly by her side. Blanka had a tremendous appreciation for the arts, particularly Opera. Blanka would often go to a local movie theater to watch the Metropolitan Opera on the big screen. These performances brought her great joy throughout most of her life. Blanka is survived by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Baker of Calais, VT; step daughter, Johanne "Jodi" M. Jones and her husband Tony of Montgomery, VT, and step grandchildren, Quenten Jones, Hanna Jones Sorenson, and Jesse Jones; and her friend and caregiver, Jasmine Boucher. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
