She was pre-deceased by her parents and brothers, Charles Briggs, Richard Briggs and sister, Sandra Briggs.
She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1952.
She worked at National Life, Brown Insurance Agency, State of Vermont starting out in motor vehicle and then retiring from the Department of Social Welfare in 1992. She was very active in her childrens activities: boys and girl scouts as a leader, music and dance lessons, hockey practice and games, Home Den, Emblem Club, Trinity United Methodist Church Bell ringers and church craft fairs and rummage sales. She was the most gifted craft maker-she could sew, knit (Irish sweaters), crochet, ceramics, counted cross stitch in which she took 1st place in a competition and her grandson Garett completed one of the many squares, and much more. She most recently loved making her own greeting cards, stamping. Her hands began to fail her and was not able to do as much as she would like.
She was very interested in the family genealogy. She took an ancestry class at Coastal Carolina University and joined ancestry.com and made several connections through ancestry groups. She also went on a road trip with Brenda to Holden, New Brunswick to meet the Briggs clan. She was able to access as far back as the 17th century.
Bev and John moved to Myrtle Beach, SC to pursue their love for golf. She was a member of the Murrells Inlet, SC American Legion Auxiliary and recently rejoined the Montpelier post. She was a member of the Surfside Methodist Church, Surfside, SC. She received her 50 year pin for the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Charity Chapter #57, Williamstown (Rob Morris Chapter #24 in Montpelier was her home chapter). Brenda was member of the Rainbow Assembly #17 in Montpelier, and Bev served as the Mother advisor for many years. She travelled with a group of Rainbow girls to several Grand assemblies in Cleveland, OH, Oklahoma City, OK, New Orleans, LA by Amtrak train and then Anaheim, CA where she had to fly for the first time and was petrified to get on the plane. She thoroughly enjoyed each of the girls in Rainbow. She was an active member of the Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina. Her son served two tours in Afghanistan and this was her way of supporting the troops overseas. She filled 100s of boxes with daily essential items: toothbrushes, socks, shaving cream, razor blades, girl scout cookies, and other treats, as well as placing wreaths for veterans in the Florence National Military cemetery.
2016, she rescued a dog that was a yorkipoo mix at a No Kill Shelter in Pawleys Island, SC. His name is Lucky, and Bev would say, "she wasnt sure who saved who".
May 2018, she moved back to Vermont to live with her daughter Brenda, to support and care for her the rest of her life.
She loved and missed her Myrtle Beach family and friends and her home. They had supported her after the death of Hank and networked to help keep her involved when she had difficulties with her health. Lucky was the love of her life until the end, where he never left her side. Lucky will reside with Brenda and Chris.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 14th, at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier. Burial will follow the service at Green Mount Cemetery.
