Middlesex, VT Bernice Barclay Sicely, 73, formerly of Middlesex and most recently of Rutland, died on Saturday, August 26th at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT. She was born on July 23, 1944, the daughter of Pearl and Doris Barclay in Middlesex, where she received her schooling in a one room school house. In 2014, Bernice returned to school and she received her GED. In 1961, Bernice married Raymond Sicely. Together they had three children. Raymond predeceased her on May 1, 1990. Bernice was primarily a home maker, which she took great pride in raising her family. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards with family and friends, and listening to country music. She always looked forward to the Christmas season, which was her favorite time of year. Survivors include her sons, Joe Sicely and his wife Martha Avila and Richard Sicely and his companion, Becky Dodge; sisters, Marion Miles of North Carolina, and Elizabeth Barclay of Berlin; brothers, Bernard Barclay of Barre, Albert Barclay, Steve Barclay of Hardwick, and Robert Barclay of Massachusetts. Bernice was predeceased by her son, Robert Sicely earlier this month; as well as several siblings. Calling hours will be held for both Bernice and her son, Robert from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday September 4th at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
