Montpelier, VT – Bernice Aber of Westview Meadows, Montpelier, VT died on November 5, 2022 at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT after a brief illness with her family at her side.

She was born on July 5, 1936 in Enosburg Falls, VT, the daughter of the late Raymond Rushford and Nettie (Bryce) Rushford.

Bernice graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1954. She graduated from the Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing with a Diploma in 1957, from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1966 and the University of Vermont with a Master's Degree in Education in 1990.

Bernice was briefly married to Charles Clough and divorced.

She married Marvin Aber in 1969.

She worked in many different areas of nursing. She started in hospital staff nursing and then taught nursing. She worked in a nursing home as well as teaching at Vermont College. She also did public health nursing and school nursing. She saw life as an ongoing learning experience.

Bernice is survived by her husband Marvin Aber and their two children Jeffrey Aber and his wife Erin of Miami Shores, FL and Judy Buchanan and her husband Ian and their daughter Elena of East Montpelier, VT. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Diane Chugg and her husband John of Freeport, IL and their son David and his wife Tracey of Monroe, WI. Also, her niece Jamie Rushford of Enosburg Falls, VT.

She was predeceased by her sister Agnes in 2012 and her brother Richard in 2016.

Bernice was a member and regular attendee of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier and a member of the church choir for a number of years.

In retirement Bernice enjoyed domestic and foreign travel. She played golf, did lots of walking, gardening, yoga and was a member of a book club.

Calling hours will begin 1:00 pm on Friday November 11, 2022 followed by a memorial service beginning 2:00 pm at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT.
