WEST BERLIN: Barbara Dorothy Viens, 83, of Ayers St. in West Berlin, VT, died on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born in Montpelier to Kenneth Malcolm and Mary (Wiggins) McGinnis. She spent her early life in Burlington and graduated from H.D. Wheeler High School in Burlington.
Barbara married Emile Viens on June 14, 1947 and he predeceased her in 1965. She was the owner of the Roma Gardens Restaurant in Montpelier and also waitressed in Burlington and at the Brown Derby in Montpelier.
She was a member of the Brown-Johnson #792 VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #3, both in Montpelier. She was an avid gardener who collected dolls and coins and loved to crochet.
Barbara is survived by daughters Sandra Larson of Northfield, Cynthia King of Woodbury, Brenda Badger of Moretown and Tamra Maxfield of Derby, CT; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Peter Viens; her brother Delbert McGinnis; and sisters Isabell White and Joyce Murray.
A private family service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2011. There are no calling hours. A public reception will be held on Sunday, March 13 at 2:00pm at American Legion in Montpelier.
