Montpelier, VT Barbara Winona Kerin, 90, of Montpelier and recently of Windsor, VT, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community. She was born at her family home in Montpelier, VT on October 23, 1923, where she lived her entire life, until moving to Windsor, VT at a time of declining health. Barbara was the daughter of George P. Kerin and Winona C. Kerin. She was pre-deceased by her sister Margaret K. Couture, and three brothers, Charles P. Kerin, Jr, David M. Kerin, and Phillip M. Kerin. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and was affectionately known to many as Aunt Barb. She was educated at St Michaels Schools in Montpelier, graduating high school in 1942. She then attended Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1945 and received her RN in 1946. Barbara began her nursing career as a private duty nurse, was then employed by Heaton Hospital in Montpelier, and later at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. She spent many years of her nursing career in labor and delivery units and was present for the births of many of her nieces and nephews. Much of her life was spent caring for others in a professional and a personal capacity. Barbara was a dedicated member of St. Augustine's parish and the Catholic Daughters. She volunteered her time in retirement with the scholarship program for the Central Vermont Hospital Axillary. Barbara was an avid walker and could be often seen walking up Main Street Hill or Berlin Hill in Montpelier to visit someone in the hospital or nursing home. A calling hour will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 9:30am to 10:30 am at Guare & Sons Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Augustine's Catholic Church.
