Obituary

Greensboro, VT Audrey Harmon Smith passed away peacefully early Monday morning, December 12, 2011 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, Vermont. She was ninety five years old. Audrey was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 20, 1916 to Annie Maude (Dawes) and Prescott Reed Harmon. She is predeceased by her brother, Prescott Reed Harmon, Jr. Audrey went from Northfield Mount Herman to William and Mary College where she met Harvey Linwood Smith, Jr. (Junie). They were married and had five children. Audrey loved Vermont and its changing seasons. She enjoyed cross country skiing and paddle tennis in the Winter and golf and tennis in the Summer. She was the Women's Golf Champion at the Mountain View Country Club at the age of sixteen and again at the age of forty when there were still cows on the course. She continued to play golf well into her eighties, and passed her love of the game on to her children and grandchildren. Audrey was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In her later years she would recite the names of her grandchildren before going to sleep at night. Audrey is predeceased by her daughter, Caren Reed Stanley-Smith. She is survived by her children; Carolyn Reed Kehler of Pomfret, VT; June Ellen Smith Kellogg and her husband, Roger of Montpelier, VT; William Harmon Smith of Greensboro, VT; and Cathy Anne Hansen and her husband, Kent of Boulder, Co; her grandchildren: Mathew Harmon Kehler and his wife, Angela Kehler, Andrew Chace Kehler and his wife, Victoria Von Hessert of Greensboro, VT; Anna Maria Kehler of Pomfret VT; Eiley Hardie Patterson and her husband, John Foster of Charlottesville, VA; Jason Linwood Patterson and his wife, Catherine of Brooklyn, NY; William Henry Bradford Kellogg of Brooklyn, NY; Sophia Light Barsalow and her husband, Francis; Jesse John Thomas Smith, Savannah Reed Smith, Wyatt Harmon Smith of Greensboro, VT; and Lauren Reed Stanley of Brooklyn, NY; her great grandchildren: Reed Harmon Kehler, Zola Ann Kehler, Thomas Fischer Kehler, Charles Stewart Kehler, James Linwood Kehler of Greensboro, VT; Harper William Patterson Foster and Louise Ellen Patterson Foster of Charlottesville, VA. Audrey was a life long summer resident of Greensboro, Vermont. A memorial service will be held this summer. She will be buried at the Lincoln-Noyes Cemetery overlooking Caspian Lake.
