Obituary

Montpelier, VT Arthur Percy Manning, Sr., 85, of Barre Street, died on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the UVM medical center in Burlington with his family by his side. He was born in Moretown, VT on January 4, 1934, the son of Percy and Mildred (Devino) Manning. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1952. On June 8, 1957, Arthur married Arlene Smith at St. Augustines Church. Arlene predeceased him on May 14, 2015. Arthur worked for the Vermont Plastics Company before retiring after 42 years of service. He also worked as a security guard for Vermont College and as a special police in Montpelier. On the side Arthur repaired friends and neighbors televisions. Arthur was a member of the St. Augustines Parish, he was a lifetime member of the Canadian Club and held many degrees in the Moose Lodge. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing. Survivors include his children; Charlene Edson of W. Topsham, Pamela Lee of Barre, VT, Marsha Manning of Montpelier, Tina Manning of Plainfield, Arthur Manning, Jr. of Montpelier, and Christopher Manning of Montpelier; siblings Anne Rodgers of Marshfield, Elaine Isham of Moretown, Mary Kelley of Northfield, and Theresa Brooks of Meredian, CT, and Raymond Manning of Northfield, 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He predeceased by his brothers, William "Mickey" Manning, Thomas Manning, and Francis Manning. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 on April 25, 2019 at St. Augustine Church. A committal service will be held in the spring at the Berlin Corners Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
