Obituary

Montpelier, VT Arthur D. Aldrich, 80, of Bingham Street, Montpelier died peacefully at Woodridge Nursing Home on September 3, 2007. He was born in Lyndon, Vermont on October 14, 1926 the son of Darwin and Grace (Heath) Aldrich. Arthur attended schools in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndon Institute. In 1949 he received his degree in civil engineering from University of Vermont. On June 21, 1952 he married Marguerite Cross at the Unitarian Church in Burlington and they resided in Montpelier since that time. Mrs. Aldrich died August 2, 2000. He was employed by the Vermont Highway Department for 39 years as a civil engineer and retired from State Government in 1988. Arthur had a wide range of interest including a great love of Vermont history, national and state railroad systems, family genealogy and was a member and past director of the Montpelier Historical Society, member of Vermont Historical Society, Association of Professional Engineers, and several railway history associations. He is survived by a son, George, of Royalton; a daughter, Susan Spencer of Montpelier; and three grandchildren, Cerelia, Jonathan and Amanda Spencer. Guare & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Calling hours are 6-8 pm on Thursday, Sept. 6. Funeral service will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Berlin Corners Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Vermont Chapter, 172 North Main Street, Barre, VT 05641.
