Obituary

Arlene M. Manning, 82, of Barre Street, Montpelier died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at her home. She was born June 7, 1932 in Moretown, VT the daughter of Allen and Avis (Goodell) Smith and received her education at Jones Brook Elementary School in Moretown. For many years Arlene worked as a machine operator for Sprague Electric Capacitor Plant in Barre. On June 8, 1957, she married Arthur P. Manning at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Arlene was an avid bingo player, a faithful and dedicated member of the Moose Club in Barre where she received the College of Regents degree in 2001 and the Red Stole in 2004. She also held several offices for the Women of the Moose. She also was a life member of the Canadian Club. She is survived by her husband, Arthur P. Manning of Montpelier; daughters, Charlene Edson of West Topsham, VT; Pamela Lee of Florida; Marsha Manning of Montpelier; and Tina Manning of Montpelier; sons, Artie Manning of Montpelier; and Christopher Manning of Montpelier; sister, Betty LaPlante of West Topsham, VT; brothers, Kenneth Smith of Montpelier; Timmy Smith of Northfield; and Richard Smith of CT; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arlene was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Ruggles and Barbara Merrill, four brothers, Ralph Smith, Frank Smith, Rodney Smith and Earl Smith. A Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 20th at St. Augustine's Catholic Church 16 Barre Street, Montpelier.
