IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anne
Devaughn
February 20, 1933 – April 1, 2025
Anne Devaughn, 92, passed away peacefully on April 1,2025. Anne was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother to her family, children, grandchildren and friends to all who knew her. She was kind and loving to all she touched.
Born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1933, she was the daughter of Russell and Anna Farnsworth. She graduated from Burlington Edmonds high school in 1951 and the University of Vermont in 1955.
The Joy of Anne's life was singing: she sang in school, in church choirs - often the soloist, and while attending UVM, she took part in many musicals, sometimes as the lead Sing. She sang to her children and anyone else who would listen to her (with pleasure). She and three of Anne's friends joined together to form the "candy canes" barber shop quartet. They were popular entertainment for Burlington clubs and organizations.
Anne lived an active life in Montpelier. She sang for many years in the Onion River Chorus and the Bethany Church Choir. she sang with the Raging Grannies and once went with them to Washington D.C. to perform at a rally at the Washington monument. Anne worked on the Bethany Bowl Soup Kitchen and often made her famous cookies. Anne will be remembered by many of her friends and family for the tiny angels she made every Christmas. Every friend, every child and grandchild received an angel at Christmas.
Anne was predeceased by her son, Rick Wells, and brother, Harlen Farnsworth. Survivors include her sons, Tim Wells, Bill Wells and his wife, Louise; daughter, Shari List and her husband, John; daughter in law, Karen Wells, wife of Rick; and sister-in-law, Esther Farnsworth.
The family would like to thank Heaton Woods for the loving care they gave her last years of her life. A memorial service will be Saturday May 31,2025 at 11:00am at Bethany United Church in Montpelier.
