MONTPELIER: Ann A. Redpath, of Westview Meadows, Montpelier, Vermont slipped away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
Born on December 9, 1918 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of Lillian and Charles Ash. By the age of six, she began spending her summers at Lake Waynewood, at her beloved cottage which she cherished for the rest of her life. Following her graduation from Central High School in Scranton, Ann attended Wilson College in Chambersberg, Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1940.
On September 19, 1942 she married William F. Redpath, with whom she shared 44 wonderful years until his death in 1986. Ann made wherever she was more beautiful; she loved creating and keeping her homes over the years, filling them with whimsy and flowers, artwork, laughter and love.
After living 38 years in E. Setauket, NY where she was an active member of the Setauket Presbyterian Church, she moved to Montpelier, Vermont, living first at Murray Hill and then at Westview Meadows. She studied to become a docent at the Vermont Statehouse and loved giving tours to visitors. She volunteered at the Wood Art Gallery and the Kellogg Hubbard Memorial Library, was an avid reader, bridge player, and a remarkable correspondent. All who were blessed to know her will remember her energetic walk, ready smile, and quick wit. Ann was a remarkable and courageous woman; she loved life and lived it to the fullest until the very end.
She leaves behind her daughter Sally Redpath and son-in-law David Blosser, her son Chuck Redpath and daughter-in-law, Amy Redpath, her three grandchildren, Travis Apple and his wife Kate, Rachel Apple, and Colin Apple, and her three great-grandsons: Morgan, Cailin, and Kelly William Apple.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM. In the Old Meeting House in East Montpelier.
