Obituary

MONTPELIER, VT Angeles (Aja) Zorzi, 91, died peacefully at Central Vermont Medical Center on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. She was born on December 31, 1925, in her family home at 143 River Street, Montpelier, Vermont. Angie was the older of two children born to parents Antonio and Angeles (Fernandez) Aja, who had emigrated from Santander, Spain. While growing up, her family continued to live at 143 River Street in Montpelier, which was also the location of the family's meat market, Aja Brothers Meats. In 1943 her parents purchased the Sabin Dairy Farm on Barre Street in Montpelier. The family dairy operation remained an active farm until 1972. Angie attended Montpelier Public Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1943. In 1945, she graduated from Vermont Junior College with Valedictorian Honors. Immediately after graduation, she began employment as an analyst with Vermont State Police at Redstone Headquarters in Montpelier. Angie's love of music began at an early age as a pianist and vocalist. In high school, she began accompanying a regional seventeen-piece dance band, The Ambassadors. The band traveled throughout northern Vermont and New Hampshire playing big band dance music on Saturday nights. Angie married Francis Zorzi on September 15, 1951 at St. Augustine Church. She spent most of her life raising her family and caring for her parents at 367 Barre Street, Montpelier where she resided until February 2016. She was a devoted and loving daughter, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Angie's immediate and extended family meant the world to her. Her passions included music, reading, traveling, bowling, and gardening. She was an active member of St. Augustine's Parish, Montpelier Emblem Club #369, Montpelier Garden Club, and the Montpelier Senior Center. Angie played piano in a 4-piece dance band most of her life. In later years, she even organized and played monthly to entertain patients at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center, Rowan Court Nursing Home, and Woodridge Nursing Home. At the Senior Center, she participated in educational and physical activities including yoga well into her 80's. In her 90's she still could be heard playing piano or the drums after FEAST Meals. Angie was predeceased by her husband, Francis, in 1986 after nearly 35 years of marriage. She is survived by her brother, Antonio Aja and wife, Virginia of Bradenton, Florida; her son, Douglas Zorzi and wife, Joanne, of Montpelier; her daughter, Joan Woodlee and husband, Timothy, of Greer, SC; as well as eight grandchildren: Daniel Zorzi of Montpelier, VT; Timothy Zorzi of Augusta, Georgia; Ethan Zorzi and fiancé, Caitlin Mackey of Fair Haven, VT; Rachel W.
