Albert M. Stone, 74, of Dover Road, Montpelier, died at his home, with his family at his side, Friday night, July 30, 2010.
He was born on January 29, 1936, the son of John F. Stone Sr. and Anne (Murray) Stone. He graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1954. Albie played on the 1953 St. Michael's basketball team that won the state championship and later played in the New England tournament in the Boston Garden. It was the only time in the history of St. Michael's High School that a state championship was won. He attended UVM and later graduated with a degree in engineering from VTC in Randolph, VT.
Following his education, Albert enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Arkansas until his discharge on November 20, 1963. After his discharge, Albert attended Tilton School in Tilton, NH. There he played on the tennis and basketball teams.
He worked his entire career as an engineer for the State of Vermont Highway Department. He retired with over 40 years of service in 2006.
Albert enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. He had no children of his own, but he enjoyed his nieces, nephews and other children. He was a member of St. Augustine Church and the Montpelier Elks Club. Albie had a real love of life. He especially enjoyed going to his deer camp in Norton, VT with his friends.
Survivors include a brother, John F. Stone, Jr of Berlin; a sister, Barbara Frame and her husband, John, of Southington, CT; an aunt, Violet Barquin; and several nieces and nephews.
Albert requested that there will be no calling hours. There will be a grave side service with military honors held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 4th, at the Berlin Corners Cemetery.
