Paid obituary w/ Picture Times Argus Burlington Free Press Montpelier, VT Agnes Cabak Brown Flood, 88, of Winter Street died peacefully at Woodridge Nursing Home on Saturday, June 21 surrounded by her family. She was born in Oregon City, Oregon on September 7, 1919 the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Katula) Cabak. At age 12, her family moved to Northfield. Agnes graduated from Northfield High School as salutatorian in 1937. On September 7, 1940, Agnes married James Flood at St. John's Catholic Church in Northfield in a ceremony officiated by Bishop Robert Joyce. James died on December 10, 1984. After the couple's wedding, they moved to Hattisburg, MI as Jim was in the service and stationed at Camp Shelby. When Jim returned from his tour of duty overseas they moved back to Northfield and in 1944 purchased a home on Winter Street, where she has lived for 64 years. For 20 years Agnes worked for at the Vermont Attorney General's office as a legal secretary retiring December 30, 1977. Agnes leaves behind three daughters; Susan Karp and her husband Paul of Lebanon, NH, Carol Moore and her husband Allen of Colchester, VT and Diane Mackay and her husband Scott of East Calais, VT, six grandchildren and two brothers Frank Brown of Northboro, MA and Jim Brown of Friendship, WI. She was predeceased by a brother, Howard Brown and a sister, Margaret Comi. She belonged to Bull Run Homemakers Club, Montpelier Senior Citizen Center, Vermont Retired State Employees Association, and Central Vermont Hospital Auxiliary. Agnes loved spending time reading, playing bingo and bridge, being with her family and thoroughly enjoyed her dogs. She was an excellent seamstress and was also skilled in knitting and crocheting. She was a strong woman who will be remembered by her outspoken nature tempered by a deep love of family. Calling hours will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Guare & Sons Funeral Home followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm. Committal prayers will be offered at the Calvary Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society, P.O. Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05602.
