Adera Joan White, 89, of Wheelock Street , Montpelier died at her home, Friday, July 10, 2009. She was born in East Barre , VT on October 5, 1919 the daughter of Ernesto & Ambrogina Locarno.
Adera received her education in Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1937. She later attended the former Heaton Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in the Class of 1940.
Adera married Harry W. White on November 28, 1940 in Montpelier .
She served in the U.S. Army during WW 2. Adera was an instructor of nursing while stationed in Sioux Falls , S.D; and served as a nurse with the rank of Lieutenant in the Philippines until she was discharge at the end of the war.
She later worked at the former Heaton Hospital in Montpelier and several years as the school nurse at Montpelier High School in the 60's, 70's & early 80's.
Adera was a member of the VFW # 792 Post & Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Post # 3. She enjoyed playing golf and bingo.
She is survived by her husband, Harry of Montpelier and son, Timothy E. White of Montpelier ; and several nieces and nephews.
A grave side service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Berlin Corners Cemetery . There will be no calling hours. A memorial reception will follow the service at the VFW on Pioneer Street .
