Ethel Jean Lavelle, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 26, 2025, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin, VT.

Ethel Jean was born on February 15, 1930, in Norfolk, MA, to George Edward Smith and Ethel May (Ingram) Smith. Ethel attended Nasson College in Maine, where she earned her Bachelor's degree and became a Dietitian. She married Francis (Frank) Harold Lavelle in 1953, and they made their home in Providence, RI.

Ethel Jean and Frank were long-time members of the Company of Fifers and Drummers of Ivoryton, CT, and attended many muster events throughout New England.

Ethel Jean had many passions, some of which included knitting, gardening, traveling and sewing, and making many of her own garments. She enjoyed trips to Ireland, Switzerland, and Italy, and regularly visited Maine & Nova Scotia.

Ethel is survived by her loving son, Douglas Paul Lavelle, and his wife, Lian Brehm of South Walden, VT, granddaughters Janet Lavelle of Barre, VT, and Jennifer Croteau, great-grandchildren Adelaide and Uriah Croteau, all of Montpelier, VT.

Ethel Jean was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Marie Lavelle; a son, Bruce Richard Lavelle; and her husband of 39 years, Francis Harold Lavelle.

A memorial service is planned on Saturday, January 10th, at 11:30 at Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell Street, Providence, RI 02906.
